LOS ANGELES - The No. 1 UCLA women's tennis team notched its 11th shutout of the season on Saturday, downing Oregon, 7-0 in a Pac-12 showdown at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Freshman Kaitlin Ray won her 22nd-straight singles match against the Ducks, as she beat Lana Buttner, 6-1, 6-0 at court No. 6. Ray, who leads the team in singles wins with a 25-2 overall record, improved to 17-0 in dual matches. She is the only player on the team undefeated in dual-match play.
The doubles point came down to court No. 2, where McCall Jones and Carling Seguso beat Trudie du Toit and Julia Metzger, 8-6 to secure the point. The Ducks made things interesting when Sofia Hager and Patricia Skowronski upset 11th-ranked Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton, 8-3 at court No. 1. Fortunately for UCLA, Pamela Montez and Chanelle Van Nguyen were 8-2 winners over Pascale Neubert and Rabea Stueckemann at court No. 3.
In addition to Ray, UCLA's other five singles players also won in straight sets, as the Bruins upped their record to 18-0 overall and 5-0 in the Pac-12.
