Bruins Blank Cougars, 7-0 in Pullman

PULLMAN, Wash. - The No. 12 UCLA women's tennis team turned in another solid performance in the state of Washington this weekend, taking a 7-0 victory over Washington State on Saturday at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse. The Bruins, who were 5-2 winners over Washington on Friday, improve to 15-5 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-10.
Elisabeth Fournier faced off with No. 80 Maya Johansson at the No. 3 position. The WSU freshmen ended up falling, 6-1, 7-5. Marina Nicolas was able to force a third-set in her match against Carling Seguso. Nicolas lost the first-set, but battled back to win the second. In the end, Seguso proved to be too much earning the victory, 6-2, 4-6, (10-3).
Ekaterina Kamendova competed in a three-set marathon against No. 16 Yasmin Schnack. Kamendova lost the first-set, but was able to surge back and win the second. The Bruins top-player proved to be too much and went on to earn the victory, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-2.
In doubles, play, Fournier and Jessica Gomez suffered a tough loss to Ashley Joelson and Remynse at the No. 3 slot, 8-1. At the No. 2 position, Oprea and Selaru were defeated by UCLA's Seguso and Stephanie Wetmore, 8-2.
The Bruins head to Arizona next week, facing Arizona State on Friday and Arizona on Saturday.
