Three Bruins Reach Singles Semifinals in Ojai

Ojai, Calif. - UCLA tennis players Eugene Brazdil, Carling Seguso and Stephanie Wetmore are all two wins away from capturing singles titles in their respective draws at the Pac-10 Championships, as the trio of Bruins booked semifinal appearances at The Ojai on Friday. Brazdil, the lone remaining Bruin men's player still alive in singles, defeated USC's Daniel Gliner, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals of the Invitational draw. Next up for him is a meeting with top-seeded Greg Hirshman of Stanford on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Matt Brooklyn was competing in the main draw quarterfinals on Friday, however he fell to Bradley Klahn of Stanford, 7-6, 6-4. On the women's side, Seguso earned a spot in the semifinals of the Invitational draw by downing Cal's Stephany Chang, 6-1, 6-0. She will be joined in the semifinals by Wetmore, who beat USC's Cristala Andrews on Friday. Yasmin Schnack was upset in the quarterfinals of the main draw, falling to Cal's Marina Cossou, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Second-round doubles play was still being contested at the time of this report.
