May 27, 2008

Senior Riza Zalameda (Los Angeles, CA/Beverly Hills HS) of the UCLA women's tennis team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (May 19-26).

Zalameda won a pair of NCAA titles last week, leading UCLA to its first NCAA women's tennis team title on Tuesday and capturing the doubles title with teammate Tracy Lin on Monday. In the team finals against California, Zalameda and Lin secured the doubles point to give UCLA a 1-0 lead and then clinched the team victory with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Susie Babos at No. 1 singles to give UCLA a 4-0 win. In the doubles championship, the top-seeded duo of Zalameda and Lin captured UCLA's sixth NCAA doubles title, defeating Fresno State's Melanie Gloria/Tinesta Rowe, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

This is Zalameda's second UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
