Bruin Doubles Duo Falls in NCAA Semifinals
May 27, 2012
Athens, Ga. - UCLA women's tennis players Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez saw their bid for an NCAA Doubles title end in the semifinals, as the Bruin duo suffered a straight-set loss at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Sunday.
Dolehide and Montez, who were bidding to become UCLA's first NCAA Doubles Champions since Tracy Lin and Riza Zalameda won the event in 2008, suffered a 7-6(5), 6-4 loss to Georgia's Nadja Gilchrist and Chelsey Gullickson on Sunday. Gilchrist and Gullickson move to Monday's final where they will face Stanford's Mallory Burdette and Nicole Gibbs.
"They've come a long way from a month ago," said UCLA head coach Stella Sampras Webster of Dolehide and Montez. "They've played their best this tournament through the team and through this individual tournament. I'm just really proud the way they competed today against a crowd that was for the other team. They played with a lot of class and respect."
Dolehide and Montez end the season with a 22-5 overall record.
