Distance Runners Compete at Trojan & Irvine Invitationals

Several members of the UCLA distance squad competed on Friday evening at the Trojan and UC Irvine Spring Break Invitationals. Representing UCLA were Katja Goldring, Kelsey Smith, Annie Mooney and Bronte Golick, while numerous others competed unattached.
At the Trojan Invite, Goldring finished second in the 5000m with a time of 16:50.59, while Smith was fourth in the event (16:57.95). Golick and Mooney were racing in the 3000m as Golick finished ninth (10:10.19) and Mooney was 10th (10:11.23).
Schmitt placed sixth in the 5000m with a lifetime-best run of 17:31.48, while Pastoor was 17th, running 18:30.00. In the steeplechase, Kado was the top finisher as she placed eighth in a time of 11:09.88. Rivera was 12th with a lifetime-best of 11:30.39 and Kent finished 13th (11:35.54).
Several distance runners from the men's team also competed at the Trojan Invite including distance coach Forest Braden. Braden led the way as he finished third in the 5000m with a time of 13:59.46. Lane Werley (6th, 14:13.13), Shane Collins (8th, 14:25.10, season-best) and Sergey Sushchikh (10th, 14:35.22, season-best) also competed unattached in the 5000m.
