Bruins Compete At Stanford Invitational

Chelsea Johnson becomes first women's collegiate vaulter to reach 15-0.

UCLA's women and men's track & field teams competed this weekend (March 26-27) at the Stanford Invitational at Palo Alto.

The Bruin women were led by sophomore Chelsea Johnson who became the first woman in collegiate history to vault 15-0 feet, winning the event. The 15-0 (4.57m) vault broke her own NCAA Outdoor/UCLA record of 14-9 that she set on March 6 and it's the No. 5 mark all-time. Johnson's vault also broke the meet record of 14-1.25 (4.30m) set by Tracy O'Hara of UCLA in 2002.

Other top Bruin performers included:
800m - redshirt freshman Jenna Timinsky, 6th, 2:06.85 (personal-best, RQ); sophomore Ashley Caldwell, 14th, 2:09.86 (season-best, RQ)

1500m - senior Melissa McBain, 9th, 4:20.19 (personal-best, RQ); sophomore Alejandra Barrientos, 20th, 4:28.29, (season-best, RQ)

High Jump - senior Julie Stevenson, 4th, 5-8

Hammer Throw- senior Cari Soong, 4th, 193-4
