Chelsea Johnson Wins Again at Texas Relays

Austin, TX - At the conclusion of the 77th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relay, held at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium, Chelsea Johnson led the Bruins. UCLA's distance medley relay was also successful, finishing second in 11:15.49. In today's action, sophomore Chelsea Johnson continued her success in the pole vault. Johnson won the event, setting the new meet record at 14-9 (4.50m). Last weekend, at the Stanford Invitational, Johnson became the first collegiate woman to clear 15-0. It is a new NCAA record, breaking the previous record of 14-9 set by Johnson on March 6. The Bruin distance medley relay squad of Alejandra Barrientos, MacKenzie Hill, Ashley Caldwell and Melissa McBain placed second in 11:15.49. Barrientos led off in 3:30, followed by Hill in 55.1. Caldwell ran the 800m leg in 2:08.4 and McBain anchored in 4:41. Mississippi State won in a meet record 11:10.06. In the triple jump, junior Candice Baucham tied for fifth overall, leaping 43-10 (13.36m, +2.2). In the pole vault, Jackie Nguyen placed ninth with a regional qualifying 12-9.50 (3.90m). In the 4x400m relay final, the UCLA squad was disqualified for running out of the lane. And, in the 1500m, Barrientos placed ninth in 4:30.44.
