UCLA Sophomore Sheena Gordon Wins HJ, Winning Mark of 6-1.25 Tied for No. 3 in School History

On the final day of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee T & F Invitational, held at UCLA's Drake Stadium before a crowd of approximately 2,000, UCLA sophomore Sheena Gordon won the high jump and her mark of 6-1.25 was a personal-best, tied for No. 3 in school history and an NCAA Regional qualifier (RQ).
In a meet highlighted by top marks from elite collegians and professional track & field athletes, there was one World-leading time and three U. S. leading marks.
Also winning for the Bruins were - senior Melissa McBain in the 1500m (4:21.94/on Friday night, McBain also won the 3000m, 9:23.88); UCLA's 4 X 400m relay (3:38.16/senior Sheena Johnson, freshman MacKenzie Hill, junior Monique Henderson and senior Sani Roseby) and senior Karina Powell in the javelin (143-0, season-best, RQ).
Other top UCLA performances included - in the 100m, Henderson (3rd, 11.59, season-best, RQ); in the 800m, redshirt freshman Jenna Timinsky (3rd, 2:07.51); in the 1500m, sophomore Alejandra Barrientos (2nd, 4:23.41, personal-best, RQ); in the 100m hurdles, senior Sheena Johnson (2nd, 13.22, RQ), senior Sani Roseby (4th, 13.42, RQ) and sophomore Dawn Harper (6th, 13.74, RQ); in the 400m hurdles, MacKenzie Hill (6th, 59.24, RQ); in the long jump, junior Dana Bethel (3rd, 19-9.50w, +2.1) and in the shot put, junior Jessica Cosby (4th, 55-8.25, RQ) and freshman Kamaiya Warren (5th, 51-6.50, personal-best, RQ).
There were two American leading marks. In the 100m hurdles, Bruin great and Nike's Michelle Perry's winning time of 13.03 and in the shot put, Nike's Kristin Heaston's 59-6.75 is also No. 11 all-time on the U. S. list.
Also placing first in their events included such world-class athletes as HSI's Inger Miller in the 100m (11.35) and HSI's Torrie Edwards in the 200m (22.73).
Other Bruin greats who won events included Seilala Sua, taking first place in the discus (190-10).
