Thompson Advances To 400m Hurdles Final At NCAAs
June 8, 2011
Sophomore Turquoise Thompson punched her ticket to the finals of the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Championships after qualifying on time during the semifinal rounds. Thompson, running out of lane five, finished third in a very fast heat one with a solid mark of 55.99. She then had to wait for the final two heats to go before her spot in the NCAA final was secure. She was one of the two qualifiers based off of time and had the fourth-fastest time of the day.
In the 400m, senior Ashlea McLaughlin finished fifth in heat two and 18th overall (53.36) and does not advance to the event final on Friday. Although she did not make the final, McLaughlin does earn USTFCCCA All-American honorable mention honors for her effort. She still has more competition to come as she will be a part of the Bruin 4x400m relay that runs on Thursday.
On Thursday, competition continues for the Bruin women with the semifinal round of the 4x400m relay at 6:00 pm (PST).
