LOS ANGELES - Today's announcement of the American Volleyball Coaches
Association (AVCA) Division I All-America teams capped the brilliant collegiate
career of UCLA's Kara Milling (Poway, Calif.). The Bruins' team captain and go-
to player, Milling helped lead UCLA to an overall record of 17-13 and its 16th
NCAA Championship Tournament appearance.
An opposite hitter, Milling enjoyed an exceptional senior season already
claiming All-District VIII and First Team All-Pac-10 honors. She etched her name
on the UCLA single season top-10 list by posting a .302 attack percentage.
Ranked third in the last regular-season national rankings, she finished the year
with a team and Pac-10 Conference best 5.66 kills per game average. Her 623
kills this season is the third highest single season kill total in UCLA history,
just 16 behind all-time record holder Annett Buckner. In addition, Milling
became only the sixth player in UCLA history to surpass the 1,600 career kill
milestone and barely fell short of the 1,700 mark by finishing third on the all-
time list with 1,691.
Also the team leader in aces with 42, Milling ranks second in the Pac-10 with an
0.38 per game average. A solid defender, Milling finished just shy of the 1,000
milestone in career digs and ranks eighth on the UCLA all-time list with 991.
This season she stands third on the squad and ninth in the conference with a
2.80 digs per game average and 308 total digs.
Milling's selection helps UCLA maintain its position at the forefront of the
all-time honors list. More players from UCLA have received AVCA All-American
honors than from any other school, while only Stanford and Nebraska have more
total certificates distributed among fewer players. Milling is the 17th player
in UCLA women's volleyball history to receive AVCA All-America honors and earns
the 29th certificate in Bruin history.
