Burt Fuller begins his sixth season as a UCLA assistant coach. Fuller's primary responsibilities include development of the team's middle blockers and opponent scouting. He also serves as the home special event coordinator and facility manager.
His coaching and officiating experience ranges from the juniors to international levels. During the summer of 1997, Fuller led the USA Maccabiah Team to the World Games in Israel for the second consecutive time, coaching the squad to a gold medal as they defeated Israel for the first time in Maccabiah Games history. He made his first trip as the Maccabiah team coach in 1993.
Fuller's professional coaching experiences includes the Paul Mitchell women's team on the Bud Light 4-player beach tour in 1994, the head duties for the Santa Monica Sharks of the Women's Western Volleyball League in 1993 and an assistant position with the San Jose Gold Diggers in 1988 and '89.
A nationally certified USA Volleyball official who worked on the Bud Light 4-player tour, Fuller was honored to be a member of the officiating crew at the inaugural Olympic Beach Volleyball competition in Atlanta. He also served as coordinator of the officiating crew for the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York City.
A 1986 graduate of Chico State University with a B.A. in Recreation Management, Fuller played for Chico State in 1984-85 after obtaining an Associate of Arts Degree from Los Angeles Pierce Junior College in 1982.
Prior to coming to UCLA, Fuller served as the women's head coach at Pierce for two years and as an assistant coach with the men's program for five years, capturing the men's state title in 1992. In addition, he was an assistant women's coach at Fresno State in 1989 and assisted at Chico State in 1985.
The head coach at Los Altos High School for two years, Fuller earned Central Coast Section Coach of the Year honors in 1988 after his team finished third in the State playoffs and earned a No. 5 national ranking. He has also enjoyed success at the junior club level through the late 1980s and early 90s, with players moving on to UCLA, other Pac-10 schools, and Universities around the U.S.
A native of Woodland Hills, Fuller now resides in West Los Angeles. He enjoys playing both the guitar and harmonica, he can occasionally be found on stage with local bands. The 39-year old Fuller enjoys traveling and white water rafting. He also loves the outdoors and is a beach enthusiast whose favorite spot is the Big Island of Hawaii, while enjoying a good plate lunch.
