Overview: One of the best liberos in the collegiate game, Zartman's role will expand this season as rule changes will allow her to serve this year. Zartman served 35 aces as a defensive specialist in her freshman season (2001). Enters senior season needing 50 digs for the UCLA career record and 347 digs for the Pac-10 record.
Summer, 2004: Finished fourth at the FISU World University Beach Volleyball Championship in Songkhla Province, Thailand, playing with long-time partner Tracy Lindquist.
2003 Honors/Awards: Named to the All-Tournament team at UCLA's NCAA Regional. Named a first-team All-American by VBall Magazine. First-team All-Pac-10 selection. Honorable Mention All-Region. Honorable Mention Pac-10 All-Academic. Top Libero at the Ruby's Montana Invitational. All-Tournament at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational.
2003: Had 18 digs in each of UCLA's matches in the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament and 20 digs at Nebraska in the Regional Semifinal. Had 11 matches this season with 20 or more digs, including eight of the team's last 11 regular season matches. Only Bruin to have played in all of the team's 122 games. Pac-10 digs champion with 4.52 digs/game. Season-high of 20 digs for a three-game match was in UCLA's loss at USC on Nov. 21. Top total for a match this season was her 25 digs at Oregon on Oct. 23. Five-game high of 23 digs was on Oct. 3 at Washington. Played across the front row on Sept. 6 against Boise State, recording a kill, an ace and seven digs against the Broncos. Believed to be the only purely defensive player to ever earn first-team All-Pac-10 honors.
2002 Honors/Awards: First-team All-Pac-10. First-team AVCA All-Pacific Region. All-Tournament at the Nike Portland Invitational and the Albuturkey Tournament.
2002: Played in every game of every match for the Bruins. One of only two players to do so (Lauren Fendrick). Became UCLA's all-time single-season dig leader with 535 in 2002, surpassing the previous record of 499 set by Samantha Shaver in 1990. Had double-digit digs in 29 of UCLA's 34 matches, including a stretch of 18 consecutive matches. Only had one Pac-10 match without double-figure digs, checking in with nine at Arizona State on Sept. 21, the second conference match of the season. Had eight matches with over 20 digs, including a six-match stretch in October and November where she averaged 6.39 digs per game and had over 20 digs in five of the six matches. Season-best of 28 digs came on Oct. 4 at California. Had 27 in the previous match against Washington State at Pauley Pavilion on Sept. 28. Also had 28 digs at WSU on Oct. 25, a five-game loss for the Bruins. Scored her only point of the season on a service ace against Rhode Island, a match where the Bruins used a different player at libero for a game.
Summer 2002: Won a gold medal at the World University Games in beach volleyball with playing partner Tracy Lindquist and finished second at FIVB Under 21 World Championships with playing partner Keao Burdine.
2001: Played in every game of every match as a defensive specialist. Had a career-high three kills at Saint Mary's on Nov. 11, a match in which she took at trip across the front row. Had double-figure digs on 13 occasions. Season-high 23 digs came on Nov. 2 against Washington State. Season-high of five aces came on Nov. 20 at Oregon. Had multi-ace matches on eight occasions. Had a four-ace match at Nebraska on Sept. 9. Served three aces at Washington on Oct. 4 and at Pepperdine on Oct. 30.
Prep: Four-time All-CIF honoree. CIF Player of the Year as a senior. Student Sport and Volleyball Magazine 2000 All-American. Bishop Montgomery won the state championship in 1998, Zartman's sophomore year. An accomplished beach volleyball player, was a silver medalist at the 2001 Post-Olympic International Tournament in Sydney, Australia. Also won Junior Olympic gold in 1998, 1999 and 2000. In 1997, she and her playing partner Tracy Lindquist became the youngest players ever to receive an AAA beach rating. At the time, Zartman, who was 13 and Lindquist, who was 16, won five AAU Junior Beach Championships.
