Two Bruins Qualify for Olympics in Beach Volleyball
July 24, 2000
Two former UCLA women's volleyball All-Americans, Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Buckner Davis, have earned a spot in the 2000 Olympic Games. The pair will be one of two U.S. teams competing in Beach Volleyball.
Jordan and Davis locked up a berth on Sunday by winning the France Open championship in Marseille. They defeated the Brazilian tandem of Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede in the final match, 15-11.
The victory increased the pair's FIVB Olympic qualification points total to 2,672 and left only the team of Misty May and Holly McPeak (another former Bruin) with a chance to catch them as the top-ranked U.S. team heading into the Sydney competition.
Even if Liz Masakayan and Elaine Youngs, two more former Bruins who are currently the third-place U.S. team, were to win the three remaining Olympic qualifying tournaments, the best point total they could compile is 2,630 - not enough to catch Jordan and Davis.
