Bruins Ranked Sixth in CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Preseason Poll

UCLA also sixth in preseason Volleyball Magazine rankings.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The UCLA women's volleyball team was ranked sixth in the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, as announced on Tuesday.

The Bruins are one of five Pac-10 teams ranked in the Top 10. Defending champion Penn State, who UCLA plays in its second match of the season on Aug. 30 in Hawaii, owns the top spot, followed by Stanford, Texas, USC and California. Following the Bruins at #6 are Nebraska, Florida, Washington and Cal Poly.

Seven of the first 12 teams in the initial rankings are on the Bruins' schedule (#1 Penn State, #2 Stanford, #4 USC, #5 California, #9 Washington, #11 Oregon and #12 Hawai'i). Three more teams receiving votes (Pepperdine, Ohio and Arizona) also take on UCLA this season.

UCLA was also sixth in the preseason Molten/Volleyball Magazine rankings.

The Bruins open up the 2008 season on Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. PT against Ohio at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic in Honolulu. UCLA then faces Penn State the following evening at 8 p.m. PT and Hawai'i on Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. PT.
