Nov. 18, 1999
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Junior UCLA women's volleyball player Elisabeth Bachman (Lakeville, MN) was named to the GTE Academic All-District VIII Women's Volleyball team on Thursday. Bachman, a middle blocker for the 24-2 sixth-ranked Bruins, holds a 3.71 GPA majoring in communications. She was the only Pac-10 player named to the first team, although four conference student-athletes were named to the second team. In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or important reserve and be in at least their second season of competition at their current school. The six first-team members are not on the national GTE Women's Volleyball Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third team national winners will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999. The Bruins have already clinched their best record since the 1994 NCAA runner-up team finished 32-4, 16-2 Pac-10. UCLA plays its final Pac-10 match on Friday, at USC.
