Bruins Rout Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 15-3

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team improved to 8-0 on the year with a 15-3 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational. Junior Becca Dorst led the Bruins in scoring with three goals.
In the win over the Athenas (0-2), UCLA had eight different players score goals with six different Bruins scoring two or more goals. Freshmen Maddy McLaren, Alys Williams and India Forster each scored two goals for the Bruins, as did junior Victoria Kent and senior Gisselle Naranjo. Rounding out the UCLA scoring with one goal apiece was sophomore Danielle Ferraro and freshman Alexa Tielmann.
The Bruins got off to an explosive start, leading 8-1 at the end of the first period. UCLA added three goals in the second quarter while holding the Athenas scoreless to hold an 11-1 lead at halftime. The Bruins and CMS both went without a goal in the third period while the Bruins finished the fourth period with a 4-2 advantage to win the game 15-3.
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Musselman made her first collegiate start and played all four periods, registering 10 saves. Allison Hu was credited with 10 saves for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The Bruins return to action next week when they travel to the Bay Area to take part in the Stanford Invitational (Feb. 2-3).
