No. 1 UCLA Women's Water Polo Tops No. 10 UC Irvine, 13-3

Crowell, Kraus, Mathewson lead Bruins with three goals each

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 1 UCLA women's water polo team rolled past No. 10 UC Irvine, 13-3, Friday evening at Anteater Aquatic Complex. Seniors Kamaile Crowell, Jillian Kraus and Courtney Mathewson led the Bruins (11-0, 1-0 MPSF) to their first MPSF victory of the season.

Senior Brittany Rowe totaled two goals for the Bruins, and senior Gabrielle Domanic and freshman Megan Burmeister each recorded one goal against the host Anteaters (4-2, 0-1 MPSF).

UCLA led from the start, as Kraus scored the game's first goal just 86 seconds into the match. Rowe added an advantage goal with 1:55 to play in the first quarter, handing UCLA a 2-0 lead.

The Bruins outscored UC Irvine in the second quarter, 4-1. Goals from Mathewson and Crowell and two goals from Kraus handed UCLA a 6-0 cushion. The Bruins led UC Irvine at halftime, 6-1.

UCLA blanked the Anteaters in the third quarter, 3-0, and outscored the hosts in the final frame, 4-2.

Sarah Frost led UC Irvine, scoring the Anteaters' first two goals. Kat Plummer recorded UC Irvine's third goal of the evening.

Junior Brittany Fullen registered six saves in goal for UCLA. UC Irvine's Lauren Machanis made five stops through the first three quarters, and Lauren Davis tallied two saves in the fourth quarter.

UCLA returns to the water at No. 16 Cal State Northridge on Saturday, Feb. 16. Game time is 12 p.m.
