Bruins Roll Past Hawaii

The top-ranked Bruins defeated fourth-ranked Hawaii 16-7

The Bruin water polo team defeated the Rainbow Wahine by a score of 16-7 on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. Katie Rulon and Jillian Kraus paced the Bruins with four goals apiece.

In the first period, the Bruins jumped out to a quick two-goal lead in the first 1:15 of the game on goals by Molly Cahill and Jillian Kraus. Hawaii evened the score at 2-2, but then the Bruins pulled away. Cahill and Kraus scored their second goals of the quarter and Katie Rulon put in two more to extend the lead to 6-2. Rulon and Kraus each scored two more goals in the second quarter to help the Bruins lead at halftime 11-3.

The teams traded goals in the second half, and the final score was 16-7. Hawaii was led by Kristy Bagnall and Lisa van Raalte with two goals each. Emily Feher made six saves in the victory and allowed only six goals before being replaced. Seven different players scored for the Bruins, who improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in MPSF play. Hawaii dropped to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in MPSF play.

The Bruins will be participating in the UC Irvine Invitational this weekend at the Anteater Aquatics Complex in Irvine, CA. Their first game will be against Santa Clara at 9:00 am on Saturday, February 24.
