No. 3 UCLA Defeats No. 8 San Jose State, 10-6

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Senior Tanya Gandy tied her career high with a five-goal effort to lead the No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team past No. 8 San Jose State, 10-6, in an MPSF contest on Saturday afternoon.
UCLA led from the start, opening the scoring with a 6-on-5 goal from Rulon with 1:53 to play in the first quarter. Priscilla Orozco helped the Bruins convert a 6-on-5 opportunity with their second goal of the day at the 6:05 mark in the second frame. Gandy's goal at 5:07 in the quarter extended UCLA's lead to 3-0.
After San Jose State's Adriana Vogt put the Spartans on the board at the 3:33 mark, the Bruins received their fourth goal of the day, a 6-on-5 conversion by KK Clark with 3:15 to go before halftime. Both teams traded one pair of goals in the final two minutes of the first half, handing UCLA a 6-3 halftime advantage.
San Jose State reduced UCLA's lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Bruins by a 2-1 margin to trail, 7-5.
The Bruins used a 3-0 scoring run at the start of the fourth quarter to secure a 10-5 advantage and led the rest of the way.
Senior goalkeeper Brittany Fullen logged seven saves in goal for the Bruins. San Jose State's Meagan Minson totaled four stops, and Kelly Kennison made one save in the cage.
UCLA returns to action Thursday, March 26, when the Bruins host a doubleheader against Hartwick and Brown. Both matches, to be played at UCLA's Sunset Canyon Recreation Center, will start at 1 and 4 p.m., respectively.
