No. 2 UCLA Women's Water Polo Wins at No. 6 UC Irvine, 10-6

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 2 UCLA women's water polo team received a game-high five goals from KK Clark and defeated No. 6 UC Irvine, 10-6, at Anteater Aquatics Complex in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon.
UC Irvine (21-6) led 2-0 after the first quarter and entered halftime with a 4-3 cushion. A breakaway goal from Annika Bergesen and shot off the bar from Danielle Warde put the Anteaters ahead early, 2-0.
The Bruins outscored UC Irvine, 7-2, in the second quarter to win the contest.
Clark took over in the third quarter, helping UCLA outscore the Anteaters by a 4-1 margin in the period. The senior from Atherton, Calif., connected on two goals early in the period, including one on a penalty shot, to give UCLA a 5-4 cushion. The Bruins pushed their margin to 7-4 before UC Irvine's Katie Croghan scored on a 6-on-5 opportunity with five seconds to play in the period, cutting UCLA's lead to 7-5.
UCLA's defense held strong in the final quarter. The Bruins' advantage stretched to 9-5 on Clark's fifth goal of the afternoon, and UCLA held on for the 10-6 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Dement tallied 11 saves in the cage for UCLA. UC Irvine goalkeeper Jillian Yocum was credited with 12 stops.
UCLA plays at No. 7 Loyola Marymount (15-8) on Sunday afternoon. Game time at LMU's Burns Aquatics Center is 12 p.m. The Bruins will conclude their regular season next Saturday at home against No. 1 Stanford.
