UCLA's Tanya Gandy, Kelly Rulon Leads Team USA to Gold Medal

KIRISHI, Russia - Former UCLA standouts Tanya Gandy and Kelly Rulon combined to score five goals, leading the U.S. Women's Senior National Water Polo Team to the gold medal with a 9-6 victory over Canada at the 2009 FINA World League Super Finals on Sunday, June 14.
In his first international competition as U.S. National Team Head Coach, UCLA's Adam Krikorian guided Team USA its fourth World League title in the six-year history of the Women's World League.
Gandy led Team USA with three goals, and Rulon added two goals in the gold medal match.
Team USA erased an early 1-0 deficit with goals from Gandy and Annika Dries to secure a 2-1 cushion. After Canada tied the contest, 3-3, in the second quarter, Gandy scored her second goal of the day to give the U.S. team a 4-3 lead by halftime.
Leading 5-3, Team USA pushed its margin to 7-3 with goals from Rulon and Gandy. Rulon scored her second goal of the match to hand the U.S. team a 9-4 advantage.
The U.S. Women's National Team returns to action in the FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy, starting in mid-July.
