The women's cross country team finished 10th in the team race at the 2008 Pac-10 Championships in Eugene, OR on Friday as a new face took over as the lead runner for the Bruins. Freshman Shelby Buckley stepped into the No. 1 spot on Friday, finishing 48th overall in a season-best time of 21:34.26. Buckley had competed in just two races prior to Pac-10s, finishing at the No. 2 runner at the Pre-NCAA Invite and as the No. 4 runner at the Stanford Invite. Fellow freshman Katja Goldring, who had been UCLA's No. 1 runner in every meet prior to today, was the No. 2 runner for the Bruins, finishing 58th in a time of 21:50.78. Rounding out the top five runners were sophomore Kelcie Wiemann (63rd, 21:56.56), sophomore Shannon Murakami (68th, 22:08.37) and senior Lauren Jirges (75th, 22:22.63). Washington won the team title as Husky runners took the top six places in the race to run away with the Pac-10 crown. Oregon was second and Stanford finished third. With today's 10th-place finish, the Bruins gave up five Lexus Gauntlet points to the Trojans, who finished ahead of them in ninth-place.
