All season long, Shannon Murakami has led the women's cross country team and Saturday was no different as she placed 13th to earn all-region honors and a spot in the NCAA meet in Springfield, Ore. at the West Region Championships. Murakami finished the 6k course in a time of 21:19.91, and with today's finish, will undoubtedly earn an individual bid to her first National meet.

Two weeks ago, Murakami earned her first all-conference honor as UCLA's top finisher at the Pac-10 meet. She has been UCLA's No. 1 finisher in all six meets this season.

Junior Kelcie Wiemann was the No. 2 runner for the Bruins, finishing 32nd in a time of 21:54.63. Sophomore Katja Goldring was 69th (22:31.94), senior Rosa Magana was 98th (22:56.83) and sophomore Sadee Martinez placed 126th (23:19.19) to round out the top five runners for the Bruins.

As a team, the women finished 11th with 321 points, while Washington won the team crown with 25 points. This year's team had a huge year of improvement from the 2008 to 2009 team results, moving from 10th to seventh in the conference and 17th to 11th in the Region.

The NCAA field will be set on Monday night as at-large team bids and individual bids will be announced.
