Bruins Finish Fourth at SMU Classic

LEWISVILLE, Texas โ The No. 19 UCLA Women's Swimming and Diving team wrapped up its first outing of the season on Saturday evening.ย The Bruins finished fourth at the 2016 SMU Classic with a score of 266.5.ย ย ย
Saturday's action kicked off with the 200 Medley Relay.ย The Bruin foursome of Linnea Mack, Emma Schanz, Amy Okada, and Sarah Kaunitz posted a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:40.74.Thank you @SMUSwimmingW for hosting another great #smuclassic Great job to all @umichswimdive @UofLswim_dive @CanesSwimDive @uscswim pic.twitter.com/Uq6swAeiRe

In the first individual event of the night, junior transfer Margaux Verger Gourson recorded a fourth-place finish in the A final, clocking in at 4:52.83.ย Sophomore Sandra Soe finished third in the B final (ninth overall) with a 4:47.51.ย
In the 200 Breaststroke, Schanz recorded a new career-best (2:09.18) to place third.ย The sophomore swam her previous best of 2:09.76 against USC last season.ย Freshman Kenisha Liu swam in the B final, checking in at third with a 2:14.14.ย
Two Bruins competed in the 200 Backstroke on Saturday evening.ย Madison White finished fourth in the A final (1:56.87), while Soe placed third in the B final (2:01.92).ย
On the boards, junior Ciara Monahan recorded a top-five finish in the 3-meter final.ย The Bruin tallied a 267.65 to place fifth overall.
Bothย Mack and Kaunitz hit the pool for the 100 Freestyle.ย In the A final, Mack swam the second-best time (48.63), while Kaunitz posted a 51.11 to finish fifth in the B race.ย
In the 200 Butterfly, Okada tied for fourth in the A final with Miami's Angela Algee.ย The freshman swam a 2:00.76.ย In the B final, White placed fifth (11th overall) with a mark of 2:03.52.ย
Wrapping up the individual events, Schanz and Liu swam in the 200 IM.ย Schanz recorded a 1:59.51 to finish third in the A final, while Liu swam a 2:01.26 to place third in the B final.ย
In the final event of the 2016 SMU Classic, the Bruin quartet of Mack, Kaunitz, Liu, and White posted a 1:31.12 to finish fourth in the 200 Free Relay.ย
Next up, the Bruins return home to host Oregon State, San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, and Florida Gulf Coast University for their Breast Cancer Awareness Meet.ย Action begins at 12 p.m. PT at Spieker Aquatics Center on October 22.ย ย
