Bruins Advance at #ITARegionals

SAN DIEGO, Calif. โ Day one of the 2016 ITA Southwest Regional Championships concluded yesterday and the Bruins are off to a strong start.ย Eleventh-seeded Alaina Miller, Jada Hart, and Terri Fleming each advanced to the round of 32 in the singles main draw.ย
After a first-round bye, Miller downed Melissa Baker of UCSB in three sets.ย The Bruin took the first set, 6-4, but Baker rallied to force a third.ย Miller advanced with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over her Gaucho foe.ย
In the round of 64, Hart registered a straight-set win over Grand Canyon's Mya Etienne.ย The UCLA freshman carried this momentum into the second round, defeating Alexis Valenzuela (Fullerton) in three sets.ย On the other side of the draw, Fleming coasted into the round of 32 with back-to-back straight-set victories.ย ย ย ย ย
After dispatching Stephanie Yamada (UCSB), 6-2, 6-2, in her first-round match, junior Kristin Wiley fell to top-seeded Lauren Marker of Arizona in straights in the round of 64 on Thursday.ย
Both Bruin doubles pairs earned first-round byes. ย The round of 32 kicks off Friday morning.
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country.
