UCLA Signs Jamie McQuarrie to NLI

The 6-foot-1 player out of La Costa Canyon High School is the first signee of the 2018 recruiting class.

LOS ANGELES, Calif.ย --ย UCLA head women's beach volleyball coach Stein Metzgerย announced today the signing of Jamie McQuarrieย (Redwood City, Calif./La Costa Canyonย HS) to a National Letter of Intent. McQuarrie will enter UCLA in the fall of 2017ย as a freshman and will become a member of the 2018ย women's beach volleyball team. She is the first signee of the early signing period.
"Jamie is a pure blocker, which is both rare and extremely valuable," Coach Metzger said. "Her physicality makes opponents very uncomfortable near the net and leads to point scoring in bunches.ย Athletes of her caliber allow us to apply a greater range of defensive game plans. We are very excited to add Jamie to our roster."
McQuarrie, a 6-foot-1 product at La Costa Canyon High School, is a three-time letterwinner as an outside hitter. She is currently averaging 3.0 kiils per set with a hitting percentage of .296 for LCCHS, which is 23-9 and ranked 15th in the state. With the sport of beach volleyball growing, McQuarrie has been in on the growth of the sport at the California high school level and has participated in Junior Nationals, Junior Olympics and Best of the Beach competitions every year since 2013.
She partnered with Hannah Phair (Huntington Beach) to win the U16 22nd annual AAU Junior Beach Volleyball National Championships in Hermosa Beach on July 12, 2015, which she lists as her biggest athletic accomplishment to date. The pair led wire-to-wire and won 21-14 over Santa Monica's Alyssa Slagerman and Manhattan Beach's Presley Forbes.
McQuarrieย also partnered with Pippa Monk to reach the quarterfinals of the main draw at the USAV Beach High Performance U19 Trials in Manhattan Beach on May 22, 2016.ย
McQuarrieย said she chose to be a Bruinย because, "UCLA has a high level of both athletics and academics."
