UCLA head women's volleyball coach Michael Sealy has announced his early signing class. Inking their National Letters of Intent and joining the Bruin squad next season will be Alexis Light (Sloughhouse, Calif./Pleasant Grove HS/Five Starz Club), Mac May (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic HS/Club Iowa Juniors), Jenny Mosser (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS/MN Select) and Emily Ryan (Bethesda, Md./The Academy of the Holy Cross/Metro Volleyball Club).

"Due to NCAA rules, we can only announce these four student-athletes at this time, as we have three more impressive student-athletes that we expect to join this class as well," Sealy said. "This class is well rounded and extremely talented. I credit our current student-athletes and assistant coaches for helping create and maintain a culture that inspired these seven high school seniors into wanting to join our program."

Light, a 6-foot-5 outside hitter, was a finalist for the California Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior. She earned All-Delta League honors in each of her first three seasons (senior awards yet to be announced), as well as All-Metro Team accolades as a sophomore. Light, who had over 1,400 career kills, 110 aces, 140 blocks and 570 digs, helped Pleasant Grove to league titles every year, while the Eagles were runners-up in the Sac-Joaquin Section in 2014 and 2015. She was named Team MVP as a junior and was also a MaxPreps/AVCA Player of the Week. Light was coached at PGHS by Brian Contreras.

"Alexis has the ability to be an overpowering attacker," Sealy said. "She was one of the most physical outside hitters in every tournament she played in last season. Alexis is a well-rounded volleyball player who can pass and play defense as well. She is going to develop to be a presence on the offensive and defensive side of the ball."

Light plays club with Five Starz under coach Liz Gilbert. "I chose UCLA because it is an overall welcoming place and seems like the best place in the world to make new friends, learn new knowledge and improve on my volleyball game," Light said.

May, a 6-foot-3 outside hitter, was a three-sport standout, earning four varsity letters in volleyball, two in track (high jump and discus) and one in soccer. She was named a Second Team AVCA/Under Armour All-America as a senior, as well as a MaxPreps and PrepVolleyball All-American as a junior, also being named a PrepVolleyball Senior Ace #10. May led the Golden Eagles in kills every season and was First Team All-Mississippi Valley Conference each year, as well as the league Player of the Year as a senior, when she led the state with 6.8 kills per set. She was First Team All-State as a junior, the two-time Telegraph Herald POY (2015-2016) and a MaxPreps Player of the Week this season. In her four-year career, she recorded 1,752 kills and 152 aces. Wahlert won the Iowa Class 4A Championship in 2016, as May was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player, averaging 8.7 kps during the tournament. May, a team captain as a senior, was coached at WHS by Lindsey Beaves.

"Mac was a starting outside hitter on the junior national team last summer," Sealy said. "She is a converted middle hitter who made the transition to ball control outside hitter very quickly. Her experience as a middle blocker makes her a formidable end blocker. Mac is a quick twitch athlete who can hit a wide variety of sets very effectively."

May currently plays with Club Iowa Juniors 18-Black under coach Kekailoa Palea. Her team qualified and competed in the USA Junior National Tournament (2013-2016). May was a member of the 2016 USA Volleyball Indoor Junior National Team, earning a silver medal at the NORCECA U-20 Continental Championships. She was a 2014 USAV Youth National Team alternate, as well as a three-time National USAV High Performance Team member and a two-time Iowa Region High Performance Team member. On the beach, May participated at the U-19 and U-21 FIVB Trials in 2016. She also spent nine years with the Dubuque Academy of Classical Ballet.

"The very first time I visited UCLA, I was struck by how beautiful the campus was and how at home I felt," May said. "I am a huge John Wooden fan and was impressed by how the coaches emulate his philosophy of hard work, humility, dedication to team and pursuit of excellence."

Mosser, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, is a two-sport star at Lakeville South, also having earned four varsity track letters with her four volleyball letters. She was named to the AVCA/Under Armour All-America First Team and will be invited to play in the UA A-A Volleyball Match and Skills Competition in December in Columbus, Ohio. Mosser has earned All-South Suburban Conference honors three times, as well as All-State, All-Metro First Team and St. Paul Pioneer Press East Metro Player of the Year twice. Mosser is the state record holder in kills (1,661), was a two-time MaxPreps Player of the Week, a Miss Volleyball finalist and a team captain. She helped the Cougars to a third-place finish in state this season, finishing her career with 864 digs, 180 blocks and 106 aces. Mosser was coached at Lakeville South by Steve Willingham. With the track squad, she was a two-time All-State and Academic All-State honoree, three-time True Team State Champion and was a member of the state-record holding 4x400 team.

"Jenny was a primary attacker on the team that won the junior national championship last year as an underclassman," Sealy said. "She plays a very well-rounded game, has an advanced volleyball IQ and a great work ethic. Jenny has all the tools to be successful in college and beyond."

Mosser plays club with MN Select under coaches Scott Jackson and George Padjen. She was named to the JVA All-National Team twice, was a three-time All-American and a three-time All-Tournament selection. MN Select was 18 Open National Champions in 2016 and 15 Open National Champions in AAU and USAV in 2014. "I decided to attend UCLA because it is a great school," Mosser said. "I really enjoy the atmosphere at UCLA and love the coaches. It just felt like the right place for me."

Ryan, a 6-foot-4 middle blocker, was an AVCA/Under Armour All-America Honorable Mention selection in 2016 and is a #42 PrepVolleyball Senior Ace. She was a three-time Washington Catholic Athletic Conference honoree, including First Team as a junior and senior. Ryan, the team MVP and captain as a senior, was a 2016 MaxPreps Player of the Week and a 2015 Washington Post All-Metro Honorable Mention winner. She helped the Tartans to four consecutive WCAC titles, as AHC compiled a record of 113-16. Ryan is first in school history in blocks (236) and second in kills (832), recording 352 kills and 87 blocks as a senior. Ryan was coached at AHC by Dave Geiser.

"Emily is a middle hitter with a very fast arm," Sealy said. "She hits hard with great range. Emily has good blocking mechanics and has the potential to have a very high top end. She is going to improve exponentially here and we are excited to watch it happen."

Ryan plays club with Metro Volleyball under coaches Silvia Johnson and Corey Hobson. "I chose to attend UCLA because of the strong academics and an amazing volleyball program and coaching staff," Ryan said. "The spirit and passion for the school are very apparent. Attending UCLA and playing here will hopefully help me to continue my volleyball career and then my business career."
