Bruins Win Second Straight A3 Invite

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. โ For the second straight year, the UCLA women's swim team came out on top at the A3 Performance Invitational.ย After leading through the first two days of competition, the Bruins sealed the deal with first-place finishes from seniors Linnea Mack and Madison White, sophomore Sandra Soe, and freshman Amy Okada.ย ย
200 Backstroke
The Bruins got off to a hot start on Saturday evening.ย White posted the top time in championship final of the 200 Back (1:56.12), while sophomore Emma Schanz placed fourth with a 1:58.96.ย A trio of Bruins swam in the consolation final.ย Junior Marie-Pierre Delisle finished first (ninth overall) with a time of 1:59.71.ย Senior Nina Hayes and sophomore Sabrina Kwok placed fourth and fifth, respectively.ย ย ย ย ย
1650 Freestyle
UCLA went 1-2-3 in the 1650 Free, led by Soe's top time of 16:21.61.ย A few seconds behind, redshirt senior Katy Campbell clocked in at 16:24.99 to finish second.ย Junior Margaux Verger Gourson placed third with a time of 16:29.96ย ย
100 Freestyle
After winning the 100 Back on Friday, Mack nabbed her second win of the meet on Saturday.ย This time the senior finished first in the 100 Free with a time of 48.42.ย Freshman Maisie Jameson also competed in the championship final.ย The Bruin newcomer checked in at eighth with a 51.71.ย
Sarah Kaunitz, Carly Reid, Savannah Steffen, Michaela Merlihan, and Cali Raukar represented the Bruins in the consolation final.ย Kaunitz led the pack with a second-place finish (50.96), followed by Reid in fourth (51.57), Steffen in sixth (51.83), Merlihan in seventh (51.86), and Raukar in eighth (52.00).ย
Rounding out the Bruins swimming in the scoring finals, Kwok finished eighth in the bonus final (24th overall).ย ย ย ย ย
200 Breaststroke
Elena Escalas and Lisa Kaunitz were the only Bruins to advance to the evening session of the 200 Breast on Saturday.ย Escalas finished eighth in the A final (2:19.76), while Kaunitz finished fourth in the bonus final (20th overall) with a time of 2:23.27.ย ย
200 Butterfly
The Bruins dominated the 200 Fly on Saturday.ย In the championship final, freshman Amy Okada and junior Katie Grover went 1-2.ย Okada recorded the top time of 1:59.26, while Grover clocked in at 1:59.42.ย In the consolation final, freshman Kenisha Liu bested the competition with a time of 2:01.26.ย Rounding out the Bruins competing in the 200 Fly, senior Emily Hammond placed sixth in the bonus final (22nd overall).ย
400 Freestyle Relay
The Bruins closed out the meet with another win when Liu, Mack, Sarah Kaunitz, and White posted the top time in the 400 Free Relay (3:19.16).ย With the win, UCLA secured the meet victory with a three-day total of 1400.5 points.
Next up, the UCLA swimming and diving teams hit the road to compete in the Texas Invitational and the UGA Invitational, respectively.ย The Texas Invite runs December 1-3, while the UGA Diving Invite will be held December 2-4.ย For updates, follow the Bruins on Twitter. ย ย ย ย ย ย
