Bruin Relay Team Posts Top-Five Finish

AUSTIN, Texas โ€“ The UCLA swim team closed out another successful day at the Texas Invitational on Friday evening.ย  Friday's highlights include three Bruins reaching championship finals and a top-five finish in the 200 Medley Relay by the Bruin A squad.ย  ย ย ย ย ย ย 

The Bruins made a strong showing in the first event of the evening.ย  Linnea Mack and Katie Grover finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the championship final of the 100 Fly.ย  Mack swam a 52.84 to out touch Grover by .03 seconds.ย  In the consolation final, Isabella Goldsmith checked in at seventh (14th overall) with a 54.08.ย  Marie-Pierre Delisle posted a 54.96 to tie for fourth in the D final (28th overall).ย 

Sophomore Emma Schanz and freshman Lisa Kaunitz swam for the Bruins in the 400 IM finals.ย  Schanz finished eighth in the championship final with a time of 4:17.84, while Kaunitz placed third in the consolation final (11th overall) with a 4:18.82.ย  Both times were NCAA B qualifiers.ย 

Five Bruins hit the pool for the 200 Free finals on Friday evening.ย  Freshman Kenisha Liu posted the top time for UCLA in the event, finishing fourth in the B final with an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:46.76.ย  In the C final, freshman Cali Raukar and sophomore Sandra Soe finished seventh and eighth, respectively.ย  Rounding out the Bruins competing in the 200 Free, redshirt senior Katy Campbell finished first in the D final (25th overall), while senior Michaela Merlihan checked in at fourth (28th overall).ย 

In the evening session of the 100 Breast, Sarah Kaunitz posted a 1:02.73 to finish eighth in the consolation final (16th overall).ย  Newcomer Amy Okada swam a 1:03.44 in the C final, good enough for a third place finish (19th overall).ย 

Senior Madison White and junior Marie-Pierre Delisle represented UCLA in the 100 Back finals.ย  White swam an NCAA B qualifying time of 53.81 to finish fifth in the B final (13th overall), while Delisle nabbed a first-place finish in the D final (25th overall).ย 

Closing out the evening with the 200 Medley Relay, the Bruin A squad of Mack, Sarah Kaunitz, Grover, and Liu posted the fifth-best time (1:40.35), while the C teamโ€”White, Schanz, Okada, Raukarโ€”finished 11th at 1:43.04.ย 

The Texas Invitational concludes tomorrow with the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and the 400 Free Relay.ย  Prelims begin at 7 a.m. PT, with finals kicking off at 2 p.m. PT.ย  Live stats are available here.ย
