Junior-turning-senior Bronte Law has enjoyed a great few days in both Sweden and the United Kingdom, winning the European Ladies' Amateur Championship on Saturday, and then qualifying for the Ricoh Women's British Open on Monday.
Law closed last weekend by making up a seven-stroke deficit with a final-round 66 on Saturday to win the European Ladies' Amateur Championship at Hooks Golf Club in Sweden. She had six birdies, including a closing one on the 18th, to go with an eagle on the 11th to win by one shot (-11, 277). She is the first English player to win the European Championship since 2000 and just the third ever.
"It feels a bit like a story, something you dream of and I couldn't have written it any better myself," Law told England Golf. "Winning the English (Amateur) twice (in 2014 and '15) was a big achievement for me and I didn't want to pull out, but I really wanted to win this one. I'm just very happy that I pulled it off, it's a relief really."
Law then headed west to the John O'Gaunt Golf Club in the U.K. for the final qualifying round of the Ricoh Women's British Open and shot a bogey-free, 5-under round of 70 on Monday to advance to this week's tournament at the Woburn Golf Club in England. What was even more amazing is that Law posted that score without her regular clubs, which were lost in transit from Sweden to England.
Law will tee it up in her third major overall and second of the season. She tied for 33rd at the 2012 British Open, and also participated in this year's ANA Inspiration in April. Also teeing it up in England this week will be Bruin alums Brianna Do, Tiffany Joh, Alison Lee, Lee Lopez, Mo Martin, Ryann O'Toole and Mariajo Uribe.
The Ricoh Women's British Open begins on Thursday. Television coverage will be on Golf Channel (Thursday and Friday - 1:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.; Saturday and Sunday - 6 a.m.) and NBC (Saturday and Sunday - 8 a.m.). All times are Pacific.
