Men's Volleyball
Head Coach John Speraw's U.S. Men's Volleyball Team completed pool play by defeating Mexico, 25-23, 25-11, 25-19 on Monday to improve its record to 3-2 and assure itself of advancing to the quarterfinal round, which begins on Wednesday. The U.S. will have to wait until the end of the day to find out its opponent. It could finish anywhere from second to fourth in Pool A. If it does finish fourth, it would have to play Pool B winner Argentina. If it places second or third, there will be a drawing to determine if it would play the second- or third-place squad from Pool B. Russia, Poland and Iran are other possible opponents currently placing in the top four in Pool B.
Women's Water Polo
For the fifth straight Olympic Games, the U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo Team has advanced to the semifinal round, the latest trip thanks to a 13-3 win over Brazil. Courtney Mathewson, KK Clark and Maddie Musselman each notched a goal in the win, while Sami Hill recorded a save in goal. Team USA now moves on to meet Hungary in the semifinal round on Wednesday. The two teams met in the final match of group play last week, with the United States winning 11-6.
The semifinal matchup is currently scheduled to start at 8:20 am PT. The game will be broadcast on NBC and on NBCOlympics.com/NBC Sports App.
