FAR HILLS, N.J. - Incoming freshman Mariel Galdiano has been selected as one of the three players who will represent the United States in the 2016 Women's World Amateur Team Championship, as announced by the United States Golf Association.
Galdiano will be joined by Katelyn Dambaugh and Andrea Lee. The Women's World Amateur Team Championship will be played Sept. 14-17 at Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club and Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The biennial event is a four-round, stroke-play tournament in which the best two individual scores for each team per round count towards the final score. There will be an individual and team champion. The United States has won the event 13 times.
Galdiano, who is ranked sixth in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, is coming off a T-2 finish at the Junior PGA Championship earlier this month (Aug. 9-12) in Rumford, R.I. Galdiano, who was 5-under (208) for the tournament, set the women's competitive course record at the Wannamoisett Country Club with an opening-round 64. The incoming freshman, who was the stroke-play medalist at this month's U.S. Women's Amateur and also placed third at the AJGA Yani Tseng (July 5-8), began her summer with Team USA at the Curtis Cup, going 2-2 in the match-play event.
