Three Named to USA Softball JWNT Training Team

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Three Bruins, 2017 UCLA freshman Madilyn Nickles and 2018 NLI signees Holly Azevedo and Briana Perez, were selected to continue their training for a spot on the 2017 USA Softball Junior Women's National Team, as announced by USA Softball on Tuesday.

Following a two-day selection process (Dec. 31-Jan. 1), Azevedo, Nickles and Perez were three of the 24 athletes selected. The two dozen players will compete in a training camp and exhibition games in June, as well as the World Cup of Softball XII in July, both of which will take place in Oklahoma City. Following the conclusion of the World Cup, the final 17-player roster for the 2017 USA Softball JWNT will be determined. That roster will compete at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Women's World Championship, which will be held July 24-30 in Clearwater, Fla.

Nickles has been no stranger to wearing the Red, White and Blue, having spent the last two summers with Team USA. In 2015, she was on the U.S. Junior Women's National Team, while in 2016, Nickles played with the USA Elite Team. Nickles played in 14 games last summer at the World Cup of Softball and World Championships, posting a homer, 14 RBI and six walks.

Azevedo and Perez are each making their first appearances with USA Softball.
