Bruins Dominate Kansas and Boise State

LOS ANGELES, Calif. โ In the first meet of the New Year, the UCLA swimming and diving teams dominated Kansas and Boise State on Friday afternoon.ย The Bruins downed the Jayhawks 202-92, while defeating the Broncos 164-130.ย Out of 16 events, UCLA posted 10 first-place finishes between the lane lines and on the boards.ย
200 Medley Relay
The Bruin A squad kicked things off with a win in the 200 Medley Relay.ย Linnea Mack, Sarah Kaunitz, Katie Grover, and Caroline McTaggart posted the top time of 1:42.12, which was also a new meet record against both the Broncos and the Jayhawks.ย The Bruin B teamโMadison White, Isabella Goldsmith, Amy Okada, and Maisie Jamesonโplaced third behind the Boise State A squad with a 1:44.38.
1000 Freestyle
The Bruins went 1-2 in the 1000 Free, led by Margaux Verger Gourson with a new meet record against Boise State (10:09.44).ย Sandra Soe checked in at second with a 10:12.50.ย

200 Freestyle
Boise State's Emma Chard posted the top time in the 200 Free.ย Her time of 1:50.29 was a new meet record against the Bruins.ย Lisa Kaunitz and Carly Reid finished fourth and fifth with times of 1:52.16 and 1:52.87, respectively.ย Cali Raukar also posted a top-10 time, finishing seventh with a 1:53.05.ย In an exhibition swim, Katy Campbell placed eighth (1:53.24).ย
100 Backstroke
UCLA posted the top two times in the 100 Back, led by White with a 54.78.ย White's time was a new meet record against Kansas and Boise State.ย Emma Schanz placed second with a time of 56.09.ย Also in the top 10, Sabrina Kwok swam a 59.17 to finish ninth.ย ย
100 Breaststroke
The Bruins swept the top three spots in the 100 Breast.ย Sarah Kaunitz nabbed the top time of 1:04.36 to post a new meet record against the Broncos.ย Winkler and Goldsmith finished second and third, respectively.ย
200 Butterfly
Continuing her dominance in the butterfly, Okada swam the top time in the 200 Fly (2:02.30) to set a new meet record against the Broncos.ย The freshman out-touched fellow Bruin Katie Grover by .06 seconds.ย Delisle swam the fourth-best time of the event (2:05.27).ย ย ย ย ย
50 Freestyle
Three Bruins hit the pool for the splash and dash.ย Boise State's Brittany Aoyama swam the top time of 23.03, finishing .11 seconds ahead of Mack in second (23.14).ย McTaggart finished fourth (23.43), followed by Jameson in fifth (23.93).ย
3-Meter Diving
The Bruins posted three top-five finishes in the 3-meter event.ย Annika Lenz recorded the top score of 320.45, followed by Kat Friese in second (287.35) and Madeline Russell in fourth (252.45).ย ย ย ย ย ย
100 Freestyle
Three Bruins finished in the top five in the 100 Free, led by Mack with a top time of 49.77.ย The mark was a new meet record against both opponents as well as an NCAA B Qualifying time.ย McTaggart and Sarah Kaunitz placed third and fourth, respectively.ย ย ย
200 Backstroke
Completing the sweep of Friday's backstroke events, White swam the fastest time in the 200 Back.ย Her time of 1:58.90 was an NCAA B Qualifying time and a new meet record against both the Broncos and Jayhawks.ย Delisle and Natalie Amberg nabbed the third- and fourth-place spots, respectively, with times of 2:03.81 and 2:04.02.ย

200 Breaststroke
The Bruins went 1-2 in the 200 Breast on Friday.ย Schanz swam the fastest time (2:16.94), followed by Winkler in second (2:20.30).ย Elena Escalas finished sixth with a 2:22.69.ย
500 Freestyle
Michaela Merlihan led the charge for the Bruins in the 500 Free.ย The senior placed third with a time of 4:57.04.ย Campbell checked in at fourth (4:59.51), followed by Verger Gourson in fifth (4:59.73).ย
100 Butterfly
Three Bruins competed in the 100 Fly on Friday afternoon.ย Aoyama of Boise State topped the field with a new meet record of 53.39.ย Okada posted the second-best time (55.69), followed by Grover in third (56.27).ย Rounding out the Bruins in the event, Burnham swam a 58.72 to finish 10th.ย
1-Meter Diving
Ciara Monahan came away with the top mark in the 1-meter event.ย Her 306.45 bested the field by 16 points.ย Traci Shiver finished just outside of the top five in sixth (233.10).ย

400 Individual Medley
In the final individual event of the day, Goldsmith dominated the field with an exhibition time of 4:22.19 in the 400 IM.ย Also swimming exhibition swims, Lisa Kaunitz and Sandra Soe clocked in at 4:28.13 and 4:34.49, respectively.ย ย ย
400 Freestyle Relay
In an exhibition swim, the Bruin quartet of McTaggart, Mack, Sarah Kaunitz, and White posted the top time of 3:22.08 in the 400 Free Relay.ย Also swimming exhibition swims, the B teamโJameson, Steffen, Okada, and Raukarโclocked in at 3:29.59, the C teamโAmberg, Winkler, Reid, and Lisa Kaunitzโposted a 3:31.31, and the D squadโKwok, Burnham, Campbell, and Goldsmithโchecked in at 3:34.91.ย
