Freshman Madison Kocian of the UCLA gymnastics team was voted the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 2-8.
In her collegiate debut, the 2016 Olympic gold and silver medalist won the all-around, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise to help UCLA win its season opener over Arkansas, 195-700-195.350. Kocian recorded scores of 9.875 on bars and floor to tie for first, 9.85 on beam to tie for first and 9.825 on vault to tie for fourth. Additionally, she and teammate Kyla Ross became the first-ever Olympic gold medalists to compete in a NCAA women's gymnastics meet.
This is Kocian's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.

This week, Kocian beat out men's basketball's Bryce Alford, who averaged 20.5 points and was 9-12 from three-point range in the Bruins' two wins, and men's volleyball's Jake Arnitz, who had double-digit kills in two UCLA victories.
