Women's Soccer Announces 2017 Spring Schedule

February 10, 2017 | Women's Soccer

The UCLA women's soccer team will kick off its 2017 spring schedule on Sunday, Feb. 26 with a 4pm home match against Long Beach State at North Athletic Field and will also play NWSL squad Seattle Reign FC on Apr. 4 in Norco.

The Bruins will play a total of eight matches in the spring, including three at UCLA during the winter academic quarter and fourย other matches in Southern California. After the spring opener on Feb. 26, UCLA will host a Mar. 12 doubleheader at North Athletic Field with a match against Santa Clara at 11am, followed by an alumni kid's clinic at 1pm and an alumni game at 2pm.

UCLA will travel to Las Vegas for a pair of games at UNLV on Mar. 18. The Bruins will play the host Rebels at 5pm, followed by BYU at 7pm.

The Bruins will have the opportunity to test their mettle against a professional team on Apr. 4 when they play two-time NWSL Shield winners Seattle Reign FC at the new state-of-the-art soccer and events facility, SilverLakes. Legends FC and Slammers FC, two elite-level club soccer programs in Southern California, have come together to organize the event. The Reign is coached by Laura Harvey and is led by 2016 NWSL Defender of the Year Lauren Barnes, who was an All-American as a senior at UCLA in 2010, and Olympic gold medalist and Women's World Cup champion Megan Rapinoe.

Admission to the UCLA-Seattle Reign FC game is free.ย

The Bruins willย conclude its spring schedule on Apr. 15 at Pleasant Valley Fields in Camarillo against Pepperdine (1:30pm) and UC Santa Barbara (3pm).

UCLA returns nine starters from last season's team that advanced to the NCAA Round of 16, including All-American and Olympic bronze medalist Jessie Fleming, All-Pac-12 honorees Anika Rodriguez and Hailie Mace and Top Drawer Soccer All-Freshman players Kaiya McCullough and Teagan Micah. Other returning starters are Zoey Goralski, MacKenzie Cerda, Sunny Dunphy and Jacey Pederson.

The spring season will mark the playing debuts of freshmen Mal Pugh and Marley Canales, who enrolled at UCLA in January after playing in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in November and December. Pugh also played for Team USA at the Olympics in August and has 17 caps and four goals for the U.S. Women's National Team.
