March 15, 2017 | Swimming & Diving
INDIANAPOLIS โ No. 19 UCLA opened NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a school-record performance, as it posted a time of 7:04.59 in the 800 Free Relay on the first day of competition. The Bruins finished 18th in the week's first event.
Linnea Mack, Kenisha Liu, Katie Grover and Madison White made up the quartet of Bruins that set the record, which was previously set during this year's Pac-12 Championships. It marked the first of five relays that the Bruins will be participating in at NCAAs.
Two more relays will take place tomorrow, beginning with the 200 Free Relay and concluding with the 400 Medley Relay. In between Liu and Emma Schanz will compete in the 200 IM after posting "B" times at Pac-12s. Mack will also make her first individual NCAA appearance of 2017, when she looks to once again improve upon her school-record time of 21.67.
The 1-meter diving competition will also take place Thursday, with Maria Polyakova leading four Bruins into the event. Eloise Belanger, Annika Lenz and Ciara Monahan will join the junior Pac-12 Diver of the Month.

Diving trials will begin at 12:30 p.m., while the finals of each of the aforementioned events, plus the two relays, will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday's sessions will be streamed live on NCAA.com and indianasportscorp.org/ncaasd.
