STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Kylee Perez completed an outstanding weekend on The Farm with three more hits, driving in two and scoring twice, as the 12th-ranked Bruins finished up a sweep of Stanford on Sunday with an 8-1 victory at Smith Family Stadium.
The Bruins (37-12, 11-7 Pac-12) had 10 hits from eight of their nine starters. In the circle, junior Selina Ta'amilo improved to 12-0 on the season, striking out four in 5 2/3 shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks. She had 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and fifth and a pair of strikeouts in the fifth. Junior Johanna Grauer started and allowed a run and three walks in 1 1/3 frames.
UCLA recorded the game's first run in the second. With one out, redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia singled to center, and one out later, moved to second after freshman Bubba Nickles was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Paige Halstead followed with a single to left to bring in Garcia.
Stanford (18-27, 1-17) tied the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Kylie Sorenson, but the Bruins responded with three in the third. Senior Gabrielle Maurice led off with a single, moved to third on a single by Perez and scored on a squeeze bunt by senior Delaney Spaulding to make it 2-1. Two pitches later, junior Madeline Jelenicki crushed her 11th homer of the season over the wall in left to put the Bruins ahead 4-1.
UCLA added four insurance runs in the sixth. Nickles led off with a double to left and Halstead walked, with sophomore Imani Johnson running for Halstead. A sacrifice by sophomore Zoe Shaw moved both runners up, and one out later, Perez singled to center to bring in Nickles and Johnson to make it 6-1. Spaulding then connected on a two-run homer to left, her 11th of the season, to extend the advantage to 8-1.
The Bruins close out their regular-season home schedule next weekend against Arizona. The first matchup will be on Friday at 5 p.m. at Easton Stadium. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network.
