LOS ANGELES -- UCLA Head Women's Basketball Coach Cori Close announced today that redshirt junior forward Paulina Hersler has decided to transfer from UCLA for her final season of collegiate basketball.
She will graduate from UCLA this spring with a bachelor of arts degree in communication studies and will have one year of eligibility remaining as a graduate student-athlete.
"I am so grateful for the four years we got to spend with Paulina (Hersler)," Close said. "She is a hard worker, a great teammate, has a fun spirit and has always put the team first. I will miss her greatly, but she is leaving UCLA with a degree in hand and deserves to have it all. I want nothing but the best for Paulina and I am in full support of her as she takes the next step in her life."
Hersler, a forward out of Malmö, Sweden, averaged 3.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game this year, playing in all 34 games while making two starts for an average of 14.1 minutes per game. She shot 73.7 percent from the free-throw line (14-of-19) and had a season- and career-best 12 points in a home win against Southern on Nov. 18, 2016.
"It was with mixed emotions that I told the players and coaches at UCLA that I had made the decision to leave," Hersler said. "I will forever be grateful to UCLA and I have thoroughly enjoyed being here the last four years. I want to continue to play college basketball and aspire to play professionally. But I also want to enter grad school and attain a master's degree. I have learned a lot at UCLA and I'm ready to take the next step."
