LAS CRUCES, N.M. -ย Junior Zana Muno recorded 21 digs and an ace, senior Sarah Sponcil added 39 assists, eight digs and four blocks and senior Reily Buechler posted 11 kills and eight digs, as the 11th-ranked Bruins improved to 4-0 on the season with a sweep of New Mexico State on Friday at the Pan American Center. Set scores were 25-22, 25-23, 25-17.

Sophomore Madeleine Gates had nine kills and seven blocks, freshman Mac May tallied nine kills and five digs and junior Kyra Rogers added five kills and two aces. Freshman Jenny Mosser notched five kills, while sophomore Savvy Simo had four digs and two aces. The Bruins hit .236 as a team.

The first set was tied at each score from 1-all to 9-all before a 6-1 run put the Bruins ahead for good. Trailing 9-8, a Rogers kill and two New Mexico State (2-3) errors made it 11-9. After a sideout, a Mosser kill, a Gates solo block and a bad Aggie set put the Bruins up 14-10. New Mexico State cut its deficit to two at 15-13 before a 4-1 Bruin run on kills by Buechler and Gates, a Gates/May block and an Aggie attack error put UCLA up by a set-best five at 19-14.

UCLA's lead would be five on a few more occasions. On the Bruins' second set point, Gates' team-best fourth kill of the opener finished off a 25-22 win. Gates also added three blocks, Buechler had three kills and four digs and Mosser was 3-for-8 in kills with no errors. Muno added seven digs. The Bruins out-hit the Aggies, .220 to .189.

Set two was also close, with eight ties and four lead changes. New Mexico State's largest lead of set two was three at 14-11. With the Bruins still down by two at 16-14, a 5-1 run put the visitors up 19-17, as Buechler and May had kills, Muno served an ace, Gates and Sponcil teamed up for a block and NMSU committed an error.

After the Aggies tied the score at 19, the Bruins got kills from May and Rogers to go back up by two. New Mexico State was unable to tie the score for the rest of the set, as a Mosser kill on the Bruins' third set point closed out the 25-23 win. Buechler led the Bruins with five kills and no errors in eight attempts, May added three kills and Muno had seven digs for the second set in a row, as the Bruins out-hit the Aggies, .182 to .100. Gates and Sponcil both had three blocks.

Buechler was 3-for-10 with no errors, as the Bruins out-hit the Aggies, .306 to .075. Muno had seven digs again in the third.
