TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bruins are one of four teams under par following one day and 36 holes at the Inverness Intercollegiate at the Inverness Club. UCLA shot 282 (-2) in round one and 283 (-1) in round two and is -3 (565) heading into Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara is the Bruins' leader after 36 holes, sitting in a tie for sixth (-4, 138) and four shots back. He opened with a 4-under 67 in his morning 18, making birdies on #2, #6, #11, #13 and #17 before his lone blemish on the 18th. Yoshihara birdied five more holes in his second round (#2, #8, #11, #13, #16), balancing his books with five bogeys for an even-par 71.
Junior Cole Madey is tied for ninth at 3-under (139). He shot an even-par 71 in his first round, making birdies on the first and 13th to go with a pair of bogeys. Madey was three shots better in the afternoon (68), recording five birdies, including three in a row on holes #8-#10. He also gained strokes on #2 and #13, while making two bogeys.
Senior Tyler Collier is tied for 43rd (+4, 146). In the morning, he made a birdie on #16 and six bogeys, but he was much better in the afternoon, making back-to-back birdies on #10 and #11, with his lone lost stroke coming on #17 to post rounds of 76 and 70. Freshman Devon Bling is tied for 49th (+5, 147) after rounds of 71 and 76. In his first collegiate round, Bling made three birdies on #2, #7 and #15 to go with three bogeys. His lone birdie in the afternoon came on the 13th, as he made four bogeys and a double. Junior Patrick Murphy is also tied for 49th (+5, 147), shooting a 73 in the morning and a 74 in the afternoon. He made a pair of birdies (#4 and #10), two bogeys and a double in round one, while posting a birdie on the 13th and four bogeys in round two.
Senior Corey Shaun, playing as an individual, rebounded from bogeys on his first two holes (#15-#16) to make four birdies on the 17th, first, third and eighth for a 2-under 69. He would shoot a 72 in the afternoon, making birdies on #10 and #13, a bogey and a double, to put him in a tie for 15th (-1, 141). Also playing as an individual was freshman Eddy Lai, who is in a tie for 20th (E, 142) after 36 holes. Lai made six birdies in his first collegiate round (#16, #6, #8, #11, #12, #13) to go with three bogeys for a 3-under 68. He shot a 74 in the afternoon, birdieing #2 and #13, while making three bogeys and a double.
