Bruins Fall to Ducks, 3-0, in Series Opener

EUGENE, Ore. – Megan Faraimo allowed one earned run over six innings in the No. 3 UCLA softball team's 3-0 loss to No. 19 Oregon at Jane Sanders Stadium on Friday night.
The Bruins (27-4, 4-3) were held to just two hits and struck out four times in a complete-game shutout by Ducks' (20-8, 3-4) pitcher Morgan Scott. Scott retired the last 10 batters she faced and allowed only one UCLA baserunner to reach scoring position for the entire game.
Sharlize Palacios and Anna Vines recorded the Bruins' only knocks.
Faraimo struck out six Oregon batters in her outing. Her record drops to 13-2 on the season.
Catcher Terra McGowan opened the scoring for the Ducks with a solo homer to left-center field. Two UCLA throwing errors enabled Oregon to tack on a run each of the third and fifth innings.
With two outs in the third, Oregon's KK Humphreys batted a ball to Anna Vines in the right side of the infield. Vines bobbled the ground ball and rushed an errant throw that skipped past an outstretched Jordan Woolery at first base, allowing Hanna Delgado to score from second base.
In the fifth, shortstop Maya Brady's throw going for a force out at second base went wide and caused Vines' foot to be moved off the bag. The next batter, McGowan, notched her second RBI extra-base hit of the game with a double into the right-center gap. Faraimo went on to right retire the next three batters to get out of the inning.
UCLA looks to even the series tomorrow in game two at Jane Sanders Stadium at 2 p.m. (PT). Fans can watch the game on the Pac-12 Network.
