Seventh-Inning Rally Leads No. 3 UCLA to 6-2 Victory Over Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. โ Maya Brady and Jordan Woolery clutched up for back-to-back home runs to break a tie in the seventh inning and lead the No. 3 UCLA softball team to a 6-2 victory over No. 19 Oregon at Jane Sanders Stadium on Sunday.

With the game even at 2-2, redshirt junior Janelle Meoño led off the top half of the seventh a with a line-drive shot to third base for a base hit. Brady answered the call one batter later on a two-run blast to left-center field off the first pitch of the bat. Woolery left the yard two pitches later.

The Bruins (29-4, 6-3) totaled 11 hits in the game. By virtue of the win, UCLA takes the series, 2-1.

Brady went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored on the day. Brady also did it with her speed, beating out two infield hits, one to the shortstop and another to the pitcher. Brady now owns a team-high 11 home runs, 37 runs batted in and .465 batting average.

Woolery's homer was her fifth of the year. Redshirt senior Aaliyah Jordan followed Woolery with her first RBI of the season off a single up the middle to score UCLA's final run of the day.

Woolery also put the Bruins on the board first with a double in the first inning to center field which beat the Oregon shift. Freshman Megan Grant tacked on another UCLA run with a single to right field, bringing home Woolery.

In the circle, Taylor Tinsley and Megan Faraimo worked out of several jams in a combined 4.2 shutout innings of relief. Faraimo allowed one hit and one walk and picked up her 15th win of the season.

The Ducks (20-10, 3-6) scored a run in both the second and third innings. Oregon first baseman KK Humphreys tripled to lead off the bottom of the second and was knocked in by a single off the bat of Vallery Wong. In the second, Allee Bunker homered to left field to tie the game.

Oregon had runners on base in each of the first six innings. In the fourth, Tinsley was tasked with getting out of a bases-loaded jam after hitting two batters and a throwing error by Brady. Center fielder Janelle Meoño, who was playing back at the warning track on Ducks' slugger Terra McGowan, ran roughly 35 feet and made a sliding catch to prevent several Oregon runs from scoring.

Faraimo answered the call to the bullpen in the fifth, stranding two more Oregon runners on base after getting back-to-back strikeouts.
