PLF Job Description

  • Utilize academic expertise and strategies developed through PLF trainings to facilitate course-specific learning assistance for UCLA student-athletes that promotes interactive learning, goal setting, leadership, and character.
  • Differentiate strategies for various students, subjects, and session types.
  • Help educate students about their roles in peer learning and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Follow all lab policies, academic integrity standards, NCAA Bylaws, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Maintain a recurring weekly schedule based on course history, availability, and lab needs.
  • Prepare activities using lab resources to address students’ learning needs before sessions.
  • Perform administrative protocols during each shift to ensure efficient lab operations.
  • Report attendance and individualized comments after every session.
  • Participate in all initial and ongoing peer learning training activities.
  • Submit accurate and timely reports, timesheets, and evaluations.

Selection Criteria

The Office of Academic Excellence Peer Learning seeks to hire PLFs with diverse backgrounds, interests, and interpersonal qualities. Priority is given to applicants whose course expertise matches projected needs and who can commit to the full 2026–27 academic year.

After reviewing completed applications, selected applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview. Interviews will continue until all positions are filled.

Job Requirements

  • Registered undergraduate at UCLA in Fall 2026.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 12 units.
  • Overall GPA of at least 3.25.
  • Commitment to work the full 2026–27 academic year (Fall, Winter, Spring).
  • Availability for initial training on September 21–23, 2026 (9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.).
  • Availability for weekly peer learning sessions between Monday–Thursday, 11:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., with 9 hours available between 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Willingness to facilitate group, individual, and drop-in sessions with diverse students.
  • Minimum of six hours per week commitment.

About Our Services

At the Office of Academic Excellence Peer Learning, undergraduate Peer Learning Facilitators (“tutors”) support UCLA student-athletes through group and individual learning sessions. The focus is on lower-division General Education courses, with additional support in introductory math, science, and writing. Our mission is to encourage student-athletes’ independence by helping them build self-awareness, set goals, and develop learning strategies for long-term success.
