Women Golfers tie for sixth at Golf World International

Team Update: The 21st ranked Bruins tied for sixth at the Golf World
Invitational at the Arthur Hills GC, Nov. 14-16. The Bruins will enjoy
the Holidays before competing in the Regional Challenge, Feb. 9-11, at
the Palos Verdes CC. On Feb. 23-25, UCLA will host the annual Pioneer
Electronics/Bruin Classic at Menifee Lakes CC.
Senior Amandine Vincent won her first tournament in three years,
capturing medalist honors at the Dick McGuire Invitational with a
four-under par score of 215 (72-73-70; par 73). As a sophomore transfer
in 1995, she tied for first at the same course, shooting a five-under
par score of 214. At the Rolex Fall Preview, Vincent finished in a tie
for 17th place at 226. At the Golf World event, she finished in a tie
for 19th with a score of 229. She leads the team with a stroke average
of 74.4.
Junior Sophie Sandolo, who returned to campus Sept. 24 for Fall Quarter,
missed the Bruins’ first two tournaments. After participating in the
Rolex match play championships, Nov. 1-3, she tied for 10th at the Golf
World Invitational with a score of 226 (74-77-75). She ranks second on
the team with a 75.3 stroke average.
Sophomore Alexandra Gasser, the third returnee from last year’s NCAA
fivesome, is averaging 78.2, fourth best on the team. She posted her
best collegiate finish at the McGuire Invitational, tying for 20th place
with a 227 (77-77-73). At the Golf World tournament, she tied for 45th
and at the Rolex Fall Preview she finished in a tie for 56th.
Alicia Um is the only freshman on the Bruin roster to have competed in
every Fall stroke play tournament. She ranks third on the team with a
stroke average of 76.8 in nine rounds. She has posted three scores of
74.
Freshmen Laura Moffat from West Kilbride, Scotland, is averaging 80.0 in
four collegiate rounds. Moffat’s low round of 76 was recorded at the
McGuire Invitational. She was unable to compete in the first two rounds
at the Golf World Invitational because of illness. Freshman Julie Oh is
averaging 79.6 in three rounds. Her best round of 77 was shot at the
Fall Preview.
Senior Betty Chen is averaging 79.0 in three rounds, but improved every
score at the McGuire Invitational with a low round of 77.
