Women's Golf Finishes in Sixth Place at NCAA Regionals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The UCLA women's golf team missed the cut to advance in the NCAA Championship field on Wednesday afternoon, finishing in sixth place out of 12 teams at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
The Bruins shot 1-over 289 in the third round on Wednesday at Seminole Legacy Golf Club and needed to finish among the top five teams to advance out of the regional round. UCLA opened the morning in sixth place and was unable to move up on the team leaderboard for a fifth-place finish, or better. Kentucky (9-under 279 on Wednesday) secured the fifth-place spot.
The top four finishers in the 12-team field included first-place Wake Forest, second-place Florida State, third-place Florida and fourth-place Eastern Michigan. The regional's top five teams advance to the NCAA Championship field in Carlsbad, Calif., with tournament play set to resume on Friday, May 22.
UCLA's season ended on Wednesday with the Bruins posting a three-day score of 9-over 873. Kentucky bested the Bruins by three strokes at the regional round, carding 6-over 870.
Junior Jennifer Seo finished as the Bruins' top individual performer in Tallahassee. She shot 1-over 217 through all 54 holes, carding 3-under 69 in Wednesday's final round. Seo tied for 13th place on the individual leaderboard.
Freshman Kacey Ly shot even par (72) on Wednesday, bringing her tournament score to 6-over 222. Senior Meghan Royal and freshman GaEun Athena Yoo concluded the tournament at 4-over 220, both tied in 23rd place. Sophomore Jen Lee rounded out UCLA's five competitors at the regional round, carding 9-over 225 across all three days.
Seo finished the third round on Wednesday with four birdies in her final seven holes, opening the day at the 10th hole.
Kentucky's final two golfers registered three birdies and one eagle (par 4) on the Wildcats' final three holes to move past UCLA on the tournament's team leaderboard.

The Bruins concluded the second round in sixth place at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on Tuesday, battling through cold and rainy conditions.
Teams had to endure two lightning delays, including one mid-day delay that lasted more than two hours and 30 minutes. The Bruins opened the day in sixth place and finished the evening in sixth place, with the third and final round set for Wednesday in Tallahassee.
The three-day tournament will conclude with Wednesday's final round. The tournament's top five teams, through 54 holes, will advance to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship field.
UCLA shot 6-over 294 on Tuesday after having finished Monday's opening round at 2-over 290. Through the opening two rounds of action, the Bruins sit in sixth place with a total score of 8-over 584.
The Bruins will enter Wednesday's final round just three strokes behind fifth-place ULM (5-over 581) and four strokes away from fourth-place Eastern Michigan (4-over 580).
Senior Meghan Royal concluded the second round 2-under 70. She currently is tied for seventh place on the individual leaderboard. Royal has shot 1-under 143 through two rounds.
Freshmen GaEun Athena Yoo and Kacey Ly finished at 2-over 74 on Tuesday. Sophomore Jen Lee shot 4-over 76 and junior Jennifer Seo carded 6-over 78. Yoo will enter the final round on Wednesday in a tie for 19th place on the individual leaderboard, while Seo currently sits in a tie in 24th place.
The top five teams, entering Wednesday's third round, include (1) Florida, (2) Florida State, (3) Wake Forest, (4) Eastern Michigan and (5) ULM.

The three-day tournament will continue with the second round on Tuesday and the final round on Wednesday. The top five teams, through 54 holes, will advance to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship field.
UCLA shot 2-over 290 on Monday, standing three strokes behind a pair of teams tied in the fourth-place slot – Eastern Michigan and ULM (Louisiana Monroe), both at 1-under 287. Florida (-5, 283) closed the day in first place, while Florida State and Wake Forest (-3, 285) were tied for second place.
Bruins' junior Jennifer Seo shot 2-under 70 in the opening round, concluding the day in a tie for seventh place. Seo had six birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey in the first round.
Freshman GaEun Athena Yoo and senior Meghan Royal carded 1-over 73 in Monday's first round, while sophomore Jen Lee shot 2-over 74. Yoo and Royal are currently tied for 22nd on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Kacey Ly finished at 4-over 76 on Monday.
Seo stands just two strokes shy of the individual leader, Eastern Michigan's Janae Leovao, after the first round. Leovao shot 4-under 68 and currently occupies sole possession of the top spot.
